GRECS members study the prevalence and incidence of motor neuron diseases in Catalonia and Valencia

Researchers from the CIBERESP of the GRECS group (Grup de Recerca en Estadística, Econometria i Salut), led by Marc Saez at the University of Girona, have carried out a new study that tried to estimate the prevalence and incidence of this disease, as well as of its different phenotypes (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) and progressive muscular atrophy (PMA)), in Catalonia and Valencia in the period 2011-2019. The results of the study have been published in Scientific Reports.

"The results were similar in Catalonia and in Valencia and did not differ from those previously reported for ALS, which suggests that the method we propose in the article is robust and that neither of them presents differential risk or protective factors" explains Maria Antonia Barceló.
