This is how income, voting, origin and independence are related in Catalonia

29/07/2025

Kiko Llaneras, in this article published on February 20, 2021 in "El País", relates income, origin, vote and independence in the Catalan elections on February 14.

According to this article, among voters with four Catalan grandparents, 76% want independence; while among those born in another community only 18% want it. In low-income households, the majority oppose independence. On the contrary, a third of those surveyed declare higher incomes and in this group independence is imposed. There could be a partial confounding effect due to family origin (immigrant or not). That is, those households whose ancestors have a Catalan origin, are the most in favor of independence.

You can consult a map with the results at the census tract level and highlight the most voted party.
