The aim of this study was to analyze the association between prediabetes and glomerular hyperfiltration and their associated variables.
We observed that patients with prediabetes already exhibit signs of glomerular hyperfiltration, as hyperfiltration is the first stage of kidney damage in several clinical conditions, particularly in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Based on the results of this study, the use of the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation to calculate the glomerular filtrate enables the detection of pre-diabetic patients with special kidney vulnerability and the implementation of appropriate treatment measures.
