Prognostic value of the estimated glomerular filtration rate decline in hypertensive patients without chronic kidney disease

Coll-de-Tuero G, Comas-Cufí M, Rodríguez-Poncelas A, Barrot J, Blanch J, Figa A, Barceló MA , Saez M. American Journal of Hypertension 2019; 32(9):890-899. doi: 10.1093/ajh/hpz029 (Impact Factor: 2.530, PERIPHERAL VASCULAR DISEASE 33/65 Q3)

One of the main results observed in this study was that hypertensive patients with a decrease in their glomerular filtration rate equal to or greater than 10% within 3 years have a higher risk of cardiovascular morbimortality regardless of the treatment administered.

This is an interesting finding considering that the margin of loss of kidney function predictive of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality has been much greater (around 50%) to date.

The results obtained in our study allow for closer monitoring of the hypertensive patient and earlier intervention to reduce cardiovascular risk.
